Do I need bike rack number plates?
Bike rack number plates are required by law to be affixed if your number plate cannot be seen clearly from a 20-metre distance because:
- a bike rack is blocking the view of the number plate
- the bikes carried on the bike rack block the view of the number plate
Can I make my own?
No, plates that are hand-painted or other home-made replicas are not accepted by law.
How can I get one?
You can get a bike rack plate by:
- submitting a “Duplicate Plate or Bicycle Rack Number Plate Application Form (MR171) (PDF 182.1 KB)” at Service Tasmania
- you must be the registered operator to apply
- pay the fee
