This service allows you to check the registration status of vehicles registered in Tasmania. You will need your vehicle registration number to see details of the registration. You can obtain payment numbers for most vehicles due for renewal through this service as well.

How do I find my payment numbers?

We have added some validations to access payment numbers for vehicles due for renewal.

You will need to enter either your Tasmanian driver licence number or your Client Identification Number (CIN).  If the vehicle is registered to an organisation, you will need your Australian Company Number (ACN), Incorporated Association Number (IAN) or your Client Identification Number (CIN).

How do I find my Client Identification Number (CIN)?

Your CIN is printed on your registration papers.

I don’t have a Tasmanian driver licence. how do I get my payment numbers?

You cannot use this service unless you have access to your CIN.  Your CIN is printed on your registration papers.  Alternatively, contact 1300 135 513 who may be able to assist you.

What is an IAN?

This is your Incorporated Association Number.  This is found at ASIC.gov.au by searching for your organisation name.

What does Transfer Required mean?

We have received a notice of disposal for the vehicle.  Before the vehicle can be registered, it will need to be transferred.  Further information can be found here.

My MAIB premium is not correct

If you have concerns that your MAIB premium is incorrect, then contact service Tasmania on 1300 13 55 13 who will be able to help you.  Your vehicle may need to be inspected to change your premium. Get further information on MAIB premiums.

What does ‘Defect – YES’ mean?

There is an active defect on your vehicle.  You may be able to register the vehicle, however the registered operator will be responsible to ensure the vehicle defect is cleared.  If it does not get cleared, the registration of the vehicle may be suspended or cancelled.

Contact the registered operator for the details of the defect.

I have a defect on my vehicle, what do I do?

The defect notice should be cleared as soon as possible.  Depending on the type of defect it may be necessary to have the vehicle inspected, or for the registered operator to sign a declaration that the vehicle defect/s have been fixed.

What will happen if the defect is not fixed?

If the defect is not rectified, the registration of the vehicle may be suspended and then cancelled. Once the registration is cancelled, you will not be eligible for a refund of registration.

Why can’t I see my payment numbers?

Payment numbers are available if your registration is either due or expired within a 3 month period from today. If your registration is eligible for renewal, the payment numbers should be available.  Some reasons why payment numbers are not available are:

  • Vehicle is suspended or cancelled
  • A transfer needs to occur
  • Your vehicle is a seasonal registration

How can I pay my registration?

We have many options to pay your registration.  Individuals can pay instantly via myServiceTas.  You can pay via BPAY, Internet or at a Service Tasmania shop.

My vehicle is showing as stolen what do I do?

We receive this information from Tasmania Police.  You will need to contact Tasmania Police to remove this status prior to allowing the registration payment to proceed.

I renewed my registration why isn’t it updated yet?

Payments made by BPay, Internet, phone and Australia Post, can take up to two business days to be received and updated. Instant updates only occur if you pay via myServiceTas or at a Service Tasmania shop.

My rego should be LAMS approved and it is not?

If your rego is not showing LAMS approved, then contact 1300 135 513 who will be able to help you.

Is there a security interest on the vehicle?

Before purchasing any vehicle, ensure that there is not an outstanding security interest on the vehicle by searching the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR). To undertake a PPSR check, obtain the vehicles’ VIN/chassis number and visit ppsr.gov.au or call 1300 007 777 (a small fee will apply).

Is there a faulty Takata airbag in this vehicle?

There has been a national recall of faulty Takata airbags. Before purchasing any vehicle, ensure that the Takata airbag does not need replacing.  To undertake a Takata airbag check obtain the vehicles VIN/chassis number and check the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission website recalls list.
