A vehicle which doesn't need Tasmanian registration, may need CTP insurance.

The Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB) offers CTP cover in Tasmania. There are no other CTP providers.

What is ‘MAIB only’ for?

You can buy MAIB for vehicles that:

  • Do not need registration,
  • Are exempt from registration,
  • Are Off-road vehicles (used only on private property, not public streets),
  • Have current registration issued overseas (foreign Country).

How do I buy MAIB only?

Please visit Service Tasmania with:

  1. The completed Application for Certificate of Premium paid (PDF 147.9 KB)
  2. Your Tasmanian Driver Licence or Evidence of identity
  3. Proof of entitlement
  4. Payment for the fee

What is a ‘public street’?

In summary, a public street is any street, lane, footpath, bridge, or place which the public have access to.
