Criteria for assessment
The request for the use of the feature lighting must meet at least one or more of the following criteria:
- celebration of Australian national or Tasmanian state sporting teams and achievements
- celebration of a major Tasmanian festival, public event or commemorative event with statewide or national significance
- promotion of a major charitable event
- promoting awareness of a charitable cause.
Applications must also not:
- compromise safety to road traffic
- impact the operation of river traffic
- create a distraction to residents and the community
- promote discriminatory messages or cause community disharmony
- promote political causes or parties.
Terms and Conditions
- Due to the increasing popularity of the feature lighting, we need to be stringent in applying our criteria. This means events and/or causes that have been approved previously may not be not guaranteed approval in future.
- Applications are considered on a first come, first served basis. We will not move existing bookings to make room for later applications.
- Applicants must show how your event or cause meets one or more of the acceptance criteria or your application will not be considered.
- Applications must be submitted by an applicant who officially represents the body that is organising the event or promoting the cause and be accompanied by evidence that they are an official representative.
- TasPorts have remote access to temporarily switch lighting to white at any time to allow for safe passage of boats travelling under the bridge.
- Applicants can apply to use the Tasman Bridge feature lighting up to six months before the proposed dates.
- Applicants must submit an application at least 20 business days before the proposed dates to allow enough time to assess and program the lighting request.
- We will only approve applications for the solid colours featured on our available colour chart. Multiple colours, patterns and flashing lights are not permitted.
- Most requests will only be approved for between one and three evenings. A request may be submitted to book the lighting for a longer period; however, these requests will only be approved in exceptional circumstances in order to maximise the days available for other applicants.
- We will only accept a maximum of one application per calendar year for the same event or cause.
Note: these requirements apply to external applications only and may not apply to lighting changes initiated at times by the Tasmanian Government. The department reserves the right to make exceptions to the above to suit Australian and Tasmanian Government priorities, and to regularly review or change these criteria as required.
