Argent River Bridge
We are strengthening bridges around Tasmania to make sure they stay safe and efficient for heavy vehicles and the broader community.
We will be repairing and strengthening Argent River Bridge on the Murchison Highway.
Please note the start of work for this project was delayed due to severe weather.
We expect to complete this project in late April 2025, weather permitting.
We will be working between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
The speed limit will be reduced to 60 km/h through the worksite until the project is completed. For short periods of the project, we will also need to lower the speed limit to 40 km/h through the worksite, and 20 km/h over the bridge itself. This is to allow the epoxy we place on the bridge to cure with minimal disturbance and vibration.
There will also be occasional lane closures through the worksite while we complete the work.
The Australian and Tasmanian Governments have committed combined funding of $100 million towards the FCUP program.
These works are being completed as part of the Tasmanian Government’s Freight Capacity Upgrade Program (FCUP).
FCUP supports the productivity of freight vehicles by improving the roads and bridges they travel on day to day. Repairing and strengthening these sections of road will:
