The Department of State Growth is investigating options for freight traffic and safety improvements on Bridport Main Road between Bridport and Bell Bay.

This project will help us identify a priority list of safety and freight focussed upgrades that will bring immediate benefit to all road users, as part of the Australian Road Safety Program Junction Upgrades.

The Australian and Tasmanian governments have committed combined funding of $20 million for the project.

An aerial map of Bridport

The road passes through nearby localities of Lefroy, Pipers River and Pipers Brook, and is situated on the traditional lands of the Northern clans, the Leenerrerter and Pyemmairrenerpairrener people.

Traffic impacts

During investigations, we will be working Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Traffic management will be in place during the works to ensure the safety of road workers and road users.

There will be a reduced speed limit and occasional lane closures. Motorists should allow up to eight minutes extra travel time.

Please keep to the speed limits and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.

Community consultation

Community consultation was completed for this project in 2023.

We will now analyse the feedback received and compile a Consultation and Feedback Report which will be available online for you to view. The feedback received will be used to develop conceptual designs for this project.
