About the project

We will be repairing and strengthening Don River Bridge on Sheffield Main Road under the Tasmanian Government’s Freight Capacity Upgrade Program (FCUP).

Timing

Work started on the Don River Bridge, Sheffield Main Road, Acacia Hills on Wednesday 4 December 2024.

We are working between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

The speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/hr through the project site and 20 km/hr on the bridge itself.

We plan to this work in mid-April 2025.

Notice for Over Sized-Over Mass Vehicles

Where a Transport Escort for an OSOV vehicle is required, written confirmation of an agreement between the operator and the site supervisor is required 24 hours prior to travel. If you do not send written confirmation, some of the bridge sites will not be accessible for OSOM vehicles.

Traffic management update

Long term lane closures are planned for this bridge 24 hours a day. These long-term lane closures are required to facilitate the work at this site. We need to remove the deck of the bridge and install carbon fibre rods into the bridge deck, then reinstate the asphalt.

One lane will be open at all times to allow traffic through, but please expect delays.
