Huon, South Arm, and Lyell Highway Bus Stop Accessibility Upgrade
This project will improve the accessibility of busy bus stops along three highways.
The Bus Stop Upgrade Program will improve access to bus travel for people with disabilities, the elderly, and those with different transport needs.
We are developing designs for 43 bus stop upgrades across priority locations on the Huon, South Arm, and Lyell highways, including all-weather shelters and design features that offer better accessibility.
The bus stop sites were chosen for upgrades based on community feedback and their locations in busy areas.
The first package of upgrades began construction this year (2025), with remaining priority packages being delivered in the second half of 2025.
We will start by working at key locations that are most in need up accessibility upgrades, including Tynwald Park and several stops along South Arm Road.
In 2021 the Tasmanian Government committed up to $10 million for the Bus Stop Upgrade Program to provide all-access, all-weather bus stops at priority locations. This commitment recognises the importance of bus stop upgrades to improve access to public transport for people with disabilities, the elderly, and those with diverse transport needs.
