Norfolk Creek Bridge
We are strengthening bridges around Tasmania to make sure they stay safe and efficient for heavy vehicles and the broader community.
We will be repairing and strengthening Norfolk Creek Bridge on the Arthur Highway under the Tasmanian Government’s Freight Capacity Upgrade Program (FCUP).
Construction started on the Norfolk Creek Bridge on Arthur Highway, Taranna, on Wednesday, 30 October 2024.
We are working between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
The speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/hr through the project site and 20 km/hr on the bridge itself. The project is expected to take around eight weeks, weather permitting.
We anticipate completing this project in late April 2025.
Where a Transport Escort for an OSOV vehicle is required, written confirmation of an agreement between the operator and the site supervisor is required 24 hours prior to travel. If you do not send written confirmation, some of the bridge sites will not be accessible for OSOM vehicles.
Long term lane closures are planned for this bridge 24 hours a day. These long-term lane closures are required to facilitate the work at this site. We need to remove the deck of the bridge and install carbon fibre rods into the bridge deck, then reinstate the asphalt.
One lane will be open at all times to allow traffic through, but please expect delays.
FCUP supports the productivity of freight vehicles by improving the roads and bridges they travel on day to day. Repairing and strengthening these sections of road will:
The Australian and Tasmanian Governments have committed combined funding of $100 million towards the FCUP program.
