About the project
Work is needed to preserve the Richmond Bridge for future generations and to proactively improve its overall management to prevent any future issues. Monitoring and maintaining the structural integrity of the bridge is essential for its ongoing long-term operation.
Work is being completed in two stages.
Stage 1 includes:
- upgrading the monitoring system, which includes replacing the existing vibration monitors on the bridge
- waterproofing the pedestrian footpaths
- removing the poplar trees that are growing close to the bridge
This work is jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian governments. This project received grant funding from the Australian Government through the Australian Heritage Grants Program.
Stage 2 includes:
- rebuilding of the retaining wall on the north-east (school side) of the bridge
The timing for Stage 2 will be advised at a later date.
1. Location
The heritage listed Richmond Bridge is located in Richmond, 25 kilometres north of Hobart.
2. Timing
Stage 1 was completed in June 2023.
