Kanunnah Bridge Strengthening
We are starting stage two of strengthening work on the Kanunnah Bridge, which crosses the Arthur River on Sumac Road in north west Tasmania.
The Department of State Growth and Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service worked together to strengthen the Kanunnah Bridge.
The strengthening work will improve the current load limit of the bridge and make the bridge more resistant to major flood damage.
This project is now complete.
The strengthening of the Kanunnah Bridge was completed in March 2024 and included the strengthening of the pier footings, repainting of the bridge beams and replacement of barriers and expansion joints.
We completed stage one of the strengthening work in 2022, which involved strengthening the bridge’s beams from scaffolding beneath the bridge.
Stage two, which began in early September 2023, involved strengthening of the pier footings, repainting beams and replacing barriers and expansion joints.
The project information has been shared with key stakeholders within the community.
We have also posted the start of works project information via the State Roads Facebook page.
