Sorell Southern Bypass opened in 2022

This new 2 km long road has been built to an 80 km/h highway standard with no direct property access, supporting efficient traffic movement. It extended the Arthur Highway between Tasman Highway on the southern side of Sorell, and Nugent Road to the east of Sorell.

A roundabout was constructed at the southern end to facilitate traffic movement from the Hobart side to central Sorell on Main Road and send motorists from the southeast towards the Sorell causeway. This roundabout also allows access to light industrial activities on Giblin Drive and a wastewater treatment site.

The roundabout built at the Tasman Highway near Nugent Road facilitates the movement of vehicles into central Sorell from the southeast and passage along the Arthur Highway towards the Southern Beaches, Dunalley and the Forestier and Tasman Peninsulas.

The bypass allows Southern Beaches and Forestier and Tasman Peninsula traffic to avoid driving through Sorell, providing a quicker connection between the Tasman and Arthur Highways.
